Lviv, Ukraine – IDoL has created quite the pleasant surprise in the Ukraine with the presentation of the house’s new collection for Spring/Summer 2016. This is a menswear collection that is balanced between hardcore street wear with an edge, urban city chic and formal wear. The result is explosive.
In the new collection, founder and artistic director Serge Smolin creates his principal aesthetic by placing large shorts cut to the knees with long, button down bib shirts. They are completed with double-breasted vests and formal jackets. The jackets are extremely well-tailored and are offered with tails or as waist-crop cocktail pieces. The trousers are cut above the ankles or cuffed just above the ankles.
Serge Smolin works with cotton, jersey and technical materials. He places them against a simple backdrop of black, blue and white. And when one least expects it, a strong yellow bursts onto the scene.
Perhaps the greatest indicator of Smolin’s talent as a tailor can be found in the shoulder work of his cocktail jackets and blazers. One would say that he has dedicated his life to mastering the technical skills needed for doing perfect shoulders!
There can be no reproach to this collection. It is impeccably cut and exquisitely made. This is a collection that would easily dominate the catwalks of London, New York and Paris. And this is the way for a perfectly modern menswear collection should be done !!!
